This week: Back in the good old days, office technology meant having a calculator with a tape roll and a postage machine wired to the U.S. Postal Service. Today, the average business uses nearly 20 tech tools.

Remember that slightly annoying commercial where smug celebrities boast of the bennies of carrying a Capita One Card?

Today, the modern version is "What's in Your Tech Stack?" Now we boast about all the technology we use. Once upon a time, we needed just one or two machines to keep our entire business running. Now the "average" small business uses between ten and 20 tools. (Enterprise businesses average nearly 200!!)

I'm talking word processing, spreadsheets, accounting, graphic design, project management & to do list organizers, and your calendar and appointment managers. And that doesn't even include your AI tools. Or your mobile phone apps.

That's a lot to manage. Especially during those times when you remember you had a "really great idea" but then can't remember where you stored that idea. Fortunately AI is closing the gap, allowing you to interconnect your tools, so your most valuable intel becomes much easier to find.

This week I'm giving you a look into my own tech stack and how I use AI to keep things flowing.

🟢 The U.S. Faces an Air Traffic Controller Shortage. It's Turning to Gamers for Help — As the U.S. faces a decades-long shortage of air traffic controllers, it is focusing on recruiting younger adults - "who have many of the hard skills it takes to be a successful controller." [CBS]

🔴 AI Says AI Isn't Quite Driving Away Jobs. Yet. — A March study by Anthropic (parent of Claude AI) found "no systematic increase in unemployment for highly exposed workers since late 2022." A caveat: the study did find that hiring of younger workers in AI-adjacent jobs has slowed. Also: What made nearly NO headlines: "Workers in the most exposed professions are more likely to be older, female, more educated, and higher-paid." [Anthropic.com]
