Hi Reader
I recently found this amazing article, Small Business Myths Busted, written by Patricia Simone at Entrepreneur. It was written two decades ago but it still holds up. Having worked with hundreds (thousands??) of business owners to craft their business plans, this really hit home. I've heard each of these myths repeated many times as trusisms. (Free money for entrepreneurs? But of course!)
If I were to add anything to this pre-AI era article, it would be this one bonus myth. AI will save me hours of time every week. On spec that certainly *feels* like it *could* be true. If you are able to identify the one task that slows you down the most, and the one tool that can best eliminate that friction, there are time savings to be found.
But AI is changing so rapidly that even the most advanced AI pros are spending all those freed-up hours learning and then learning some more. What worked last week now needs a new solution. What we were told didn't work, now suddenly has a work around.
Saying AI can save you time is like saying, "YouTube can save you time." Sure that can also be true. But not if you stpend 20 hours a week watching videos you never put to use. Pus. the other problem with the whole AI will save you time myth is that faster almost never means better.
So this week, I took some time to write about why you really should use AI. And time savings has almost nothing to do with it.
